Poker tournaments are an exciting annual tradition on the Las Vegas Strip, and the event fever is only about to get intense this year. As revealed a few months back, the BetMGM Poker Championship will return to the ARIA Resort & Casino this summer. But this time, the guaranteed prize pool has been doubled from the previous edition.
The Championship, scheduled to take place between June 9 and 13 this year, will feature a buy-in of $3,500 but with a total of $2 million worth of prizes for contestants. Also, this would mark the second consecutive year that the ARIA Resort & Casino will host the Championship at its world-class poker room.
Without a doubt, the organizers are looking to replicate the success of last year’s tournament with even more pomp this June. So, not only will this edition feature larger prizes, but it will also accommodate a larger number of players than it did in previous years.
BetMGM Poker Championship Open to Players Starting May 1
Interested poker lovers can compete online to qualify for the main tournament starting May 1. The Championship will draw at least 100 online players from Michigan, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Canada.
Online qualifiers can stand a chance to win a $3,500 buy-in for the BetMGM Poker Championship. Additional prizes include an all-expense paid trip and a six-night stay at Aira Resorts during the championship, and an $800 buy-in for the Mystery Bounty event.
Qualifying players will also be eligible to play against pros on the event’s final day. The final table for the championship will take place on June 13 at the PokerGO Studio. BetMGM has also promised that the event will be live-streamed for players outside Las Vegas.
Commenting on the prospects of the poker championship, the Director of BetMGM Poker, Luke Staudenmaier, had this to say:
“It’s great to bring BetMGM players back to Las Vegas during one of poker’s most exciting times of the year. For a second straight year, ARIA is delivering a Championship event, and we are happy to continue to build on our relationship with MGM Resorts while connecting BetMGM, online players to the best poker rooms in the United States.”
Nevada Players Uncertain About When to Expect BetMGM Poker Online
One of the most interesting questions making the rounds has centered around when Nevada residents can gain access to BetMGM online poker rooms. Unfortunately, there is no chance players can visit the brand’s online poker rooms ahead of the Poker Championship. In April 2023, BetMGM got a 13th waiver from Nevada gaming regulators as it failed to set up online poker operations.
As it stands, only World Series of Poker, a subsidiary of Caesars Entertainment, offers Nevada players an online poker room. Nonetheless, players within the state can always show up in Las Vegas to enjoy the thrill of the world’s most anticipated poker tournaments in person.
Summer 2023 Set to Feature Other Action-Packed Poker Events
The BetMGM Poker Championship is not the only event lined up for what is soon to be a very busy summer. World Series of Poker, which mostly steals the show each year, will run alongside the BetMGM Championship. As the longest-running Las Vegas poker event, the tournament will surely attract hundreds of players to Horseshoe and Paris Las Vegas Hotels & Casino.
Downtown Las Vegas will also play host to the Golden Nugget Grand Poker Series starting from May 30 till July 3. The series will offer a guaranteed prize pool of at least $3 million. The Wynn Summer Classic is also billed to run between May 25 and July 19, 2023. It promises a whopping $28 million in guaranteed prizes.
More details about poker tournaments are usually released a few weeks before the events, so interested players will do well to follow up with organizers on what to expect.
